Savinykh: Belarus was ready to work in the UN Security Council, had its own program

Belarus was ready to work in the UN Security Council, having its own program and an independent view of what was happening, Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives Andrei Savinykh said in an interview to the STV channel, BelTA has learned. According to Andrei Savinykh, the nomination of Belarus as a candidate for non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council was, to some extent, an attempt to defend the generally recognized principles of the international community, based on equality of all nations and the ability of the UN and the Council to defend the interests of all states without exception. “At the same time I would like to mention a very important fact: Belarus was ready to work in the Security Council, with its own program and an independent view of events on the basis of an independent foreign policy, while Slovenia had no such potential.

The country is not free to choose its position. No doubt, it will only do what it is told in Brussels, or, more precisely, in Washington,” Andrei Savinykh said.
